Another Merry Christmas
When I was doing blogs last year on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Christmas fell on a Friday so I blogged about my experience with it that year.  Now that I’m blogging on Saturdays and Christmas has fallen on a Saturday, I’ll blog about this year’s experience.  Like last year, I’m also a bit drunk this time around, though I should have an easier time getting my thoughts together.

I’m not exactly sure when the Christmas season starting ramping up this year, though it’s probably been over the last week or so.  Co-workers of mine have been giving each other presents over the last week and Thursday marked the retirement of the secretary at my office.  We had a celebration wishing her well in the future and I gave her one of the many spider plants that we have blooming at the office to remind her of her time with us.

In turn, she gave me a copy of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”, which I’ve heard lots about but haven’t had the chance to read.  One of my resolutions for next year (which I’ll talk about next week) is to start reading more, so I’ll be putting the book next on the reading list.  It is 1069 pages, but I read all 1090 pages of “It” by Stephen King in two weeks when I was 12, so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I must say that it’s going to be weird without her there, as she was the last person there that was there when I started at the office.  I’ve been there for a little over four and a half years now, so it’s going to be strange being the most tenured employee in the office, especially since I’m a contract employee.

One really good thing about Christmas being on a Saturday meant that I got Christmas Eve off, which afforded me the opportunity to go out to my aunt and uncle’s place in Mukilteo and spend the evening catching up with them and a good deal of my extended family, eating lots of delicious food and opening presents with everyone.  My pre-adolescent second cousins were on a tear shooting up the house with their newly-acquired Nerf machine guns while my cousin’s boyfriend was more than happy to play the foil to their rampant energy.  It was quite a bit of fun to watch and partake in.

As for today, it’s been a fairly standard Saturday with Christmas presents.  I gave myself a present in letting myself sleep in until 7 AM (I’d normally be up at 5:30 AM), then I took care of the cats and worked out.  Christmas festivities geared up around 10:30 AM and wound down around 2 PM after opening everything and watching a couple movies – “The Greatest Story Ever Told” and “Mindwarp”, which had Bruce Campbell and Angus Scrimm in a post-apocalyptic world with toxic mutants and blood rituals.  Both were heartwarming movies, to be sure.

The spoils of Christmas were asked for and surprisingly received – I asked for and received a Rocktron Banshee 2 Amplified Talkbox, which will let me explore the electro funk inclinations that I have to the fullest degree.  Any gift that allows me to further explore my musical aspirations is one that I truly appreciate, will treasure and use to the best of my abilities.

I wasn’t the only one who did well today, as my cat Barclay got a chirping catnip mouse on a stick that he really enjoyed playing with, as well as some other assorted Christmas cat toys that he was batting around while presents were being opened.  I also gave him some of the salmon that I had with my salmon and brown rice lunch, and he couldn’t stop yumming it up.  It was a little sad not having Mouse around to be part of the Christmas festivities, but Barclay more than stepped up to the plate in his absence.

All in all, it’s been a nice low-key weekend and it should stay that way, as tomorrow will see me doing my best to put the finishing touches on this month’s song for the site, which is coming along rather well so far.  It’s a cover of an industrial metal song done in more of a psytrance/heavy metal goa style, so hopefully I’ll do it justice.

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable Christmas/holiday season/time off from work/what have you and that 2010 wraps up nicely.  I’ll be going to see Neurosis on Thursday and Friday night at Neumo’s, so I know my year will be ending on a high (and loud) note. See you next year!
